Dave Cousins and Conny Conrad played a storming one-off gig in the NPL's cricket pavillion. |
Dave came in to bat first with a short solo set, treating us to some early Strawbs songs like The Man Who Called Himself Jesus which he hadn't played live for ages. |
He then made way for Conny to play a few of his songs... |
... with his band Dark Ocean. |
Their bass player is Eric Young... |
... who combines with drummer Mark Coughlan to make an excellent rhythm section. The band were really tight and rocked hard... |
... but even with Conny playing passionately they were always melodic, never harsh. |
After a drinks break, Dave and Conny opened the second innings alone with some acoustic songs. |
And Conny can play those tender melodies too. |
Finally, the band joined in for a rousing finale, bowling us all out with a storming version of The Call To Action. |
Thanks to all the musicians for an electrifying night's music. |
