West Station |
East Junction |
Silk Mill Crossing
Taunton is a major station on the Great Western Main Line, just beyond Cogload Junction
where the direct route via Westbury rejoins the original route to the West Country via Bristol.
It retained traditional semaphore signalling until 1986, when the area was taken over by
Exeter Power Signal Box.
I took most of these photos in 1984. I have split this gallery into separate pages for each of the signalboxes:-
 |
West Station
controlled the country end of the station, including the gantry here.
|
East Junction
was at the London end, controlling the lines from Cogload Junction
and the eastern junction with the goods lines, which bypassed the
station.

 |
Silk Mill Crossing
was the next box towards Tiverton. As well as a local level crossing and
the southern exit from Fairwater Yard,
by this time it had taken over control of the West Somerset line junction and
the end of the down relief line.
